Am I Pregnant?

Sep 21, 2022

One of the most indicative signs of pregnancy in any woman is the period missing. You can monitor your period cycle and the duration of your bleeding. The report helps track your menstruation and find out when you are more likely to conceive.

If you have sexual intercourse with your partner during ovulation, the egg is more likely to be fertilized, which can increase the likelihood of pregnancy. If your menstrual cycle is regular and your period has been missed, a pregnancy test is the surest way to know you are pregnant.

Pregnancy Test at Home

When you know you are pregnant, go for a pregnancy test at home. The test measures human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced about 8 to 11 days after conception and detected in the blood and urine.

Want to know what pregnancy test results mean?

The result of a pregnancy test may indicate a line or a symbol "+" or "-" sign. The modern digital tests show the word "pregnant" or "not pregnant".

If you get a double line or a "+" sign, you are pregnant. Then you can contact the doctor for advice and an examination.

In some other cases, you may get a result with a "-" sign, indicating you are not pregnant. However, the reasons for this may vary -

  • You tested too early
  • Tested in the wrong way or time
  • The date of the test kit may have expired
  • Your urine is too dilute before testing
  • You may have health problems and be taking medication

Retest within a week or so, to check your accurate result. You may take a blood test to confirm the result.

Early Signs of Pregnancy

The hormonal change triggers several symptoms. Many women feel some of these early pregnancy signs even before they take the pregnancy test.

Pregnancy symptoms at a very early stage like smell sensitivity and breast tenderness may expose even before you miss your period or else right after your conception. While other signs of pregnancy including nausea and tiredness may occur a few weeks later. The experts signify that these pregnancy symptoms go up and down depending on different people and at different times. However, these symptoms may occur due to some other factors and do not mean that you are pregnant.

If your period is missed during the regular menstruation cycle and experiencing morning sickness, fatigue, spotting, frequent urination, mood swings, and loss of appetite, grab a pregnancy test kit and check the result at home and then consult the doctor for a blood test to confirm your pregnancy. Comparatively, the level of these symptoms is not alike, but still, one can go on to have a perfect pregnancy. As this may vary from woman to woman predicated on their health and lifestyle.

Look out for these early pregnancy symptoms in detail-

Missed Period

The early most common sign of pregnancy is a missed period. The length of the regular menstrual cycle lasts approximately 28 to 32 days, and most people ovulate between Day 11 and Day 21 of their cycle.

Morning Sickness or Nausea

Morning sickness or Nausea is a condition having discomfort in the stomach. Mostly, this occurs in the first trimester around the 4th-6th week of pregnancy and passes on its own. Many women experience usually this in the mornings after waking up, but it can happen at any time in the day. If you feel more nauseous or you can't keep anything down, you should consult your doctor for the best advice.

Breast changes

In the time of early pregnancy starting around weeks 4 to 7, your breasts may turn tender, swollen, and darkening. The reason for this symptom is the spike in hormones estrogen and progesterone. Your breasts continue to change as your body starts to prepare to build up fat, tissues, and milk glands that help your breasts actuate for breastfeeding.

Exhausted weakness or fatigue is common in pregnant women. More energy is required to build the placenta as it serves as the main support system for your baby’s development. So at this stage, you should have more sleep and rest. However, you may regain your energy levels mostly in the next coming month of pregnancy.

Frequent Urination

You may notice frequent urination about two or three weeks after conception. Because of the rise in the pregnancy hormone, blood flow increases to your kidneys and so you may urinate frequently. While your uterus is growing bigger and bigger, it begins to put pressure on your bladder, leaving smaller space and making you alert for urination frequently.

Food aversions

The hormonal changes of pregnancy cause the symptom called, food aversions. This may happen even due to morning sickness like the thought or smell of certain foods may become disliked.
